SESQUI kicks-off the 360° cinematic dome tour in toronto’s regent park

Once-in-a-generation experience offers free screenings of the 360° film HORIZON for Canada’s 150th

TORONTO, JUNE 20 – In partnership with Ontario150, the City of Toronto, The Daniels Corporation and Toronto Community Housing, SESQUI kicks-off the cinematic dome tour in Toronto’s Regent Park. As the first of seven tour stops, the dome will offer free screenings of HORIZON from June 21-25, before travelling exclusively across Ontario from June to August 2017.

SESQUI’s eye-catching, red cinematic dome offers an 80-person capacity with the ultimate viewing experience – shot and projecting 360° film in ultra-clear 9K resolution. Audiences will have a front row seat to the wonders of Canada through the immersive, 22-minute film HORIZON. Shot in all 13 provinces and territories, the 360° experience takes audiences on a journey through Canada, from the spectacular colours of the auroras to the high tides of Fundy. HORIZON showcases Canada as it has never been seen before.

“We’re thrilled to launch our cinematic dome tour in Toronto’s Regent Park. We believe watching HORIZON in the dome is a Canadian storytelling and technology breakthrough,” said Joanne Loton, SESQUI Executive Producer. “SESQUI is about connecting Canadians, celebrating our beautiful country and honouring the diversity that makes this country great. Regent Park is one of Ontario’s most vibrant and diverse communities and the perfect place to kick-off our tour.”

SESQUI has partnered with The Daniels Corporation and Toronto Community Housing to kick off the cinematic tour in Regent Park. The organizations have generously donated a parcel of land, community engagement and valuable resources to host the event in the Regent Park community. The Toronto tour stop will also provide opportunity for partner activations from SESQUI, Canada 150 and Regent Park community partners; school education opportunities and the chance to win incredible prizes through SESQUI’s People’s Choice Ballot sponsored by Via Rail.

“The Daniels Corporation is happy to partner with Toronto Community Housing and SESQUI to bring the cinematic dome tour to life in the heart of Regent Park,” said Martin Blake, Vice President of The Daniels Corporation. “We are excited to welcome visitors from across the city into Regent Park to celebrate Canada and experience the cultural diversity and vibrant creativity that permeates this community.”

“Toronto Community Housing is very proud that Regent Park was chosen to host the launch of SESQUI and in many ways this community embodies so much that is Canada in 2017,” said Kevin Marshman, Interim President and CEO of Toronto Community Housing. “Regent Park is home to Canadians from around the globe, living together as one diverse, vibrant community and a great place to celebrate this stunning cinematic journey of Canada.”

SESQUI is a Canada 150 Signature Initiative, supported by the Government of Canada. SESQUI is also supported by the province of Ontario as part of a line-up of Ontario150 celebrations taking place across the province in 2017.

“Ontario’s 150th anniversary is an opportunity to come together and celebrate the incredible province we live in.  A picture is worth a thousand words, and the SESQUI film HORIZON is a visual spectacle of special and unique moments across the country,” said Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “With SESQUI’s dome in Toronto, families throughout the area will experience the magic of Ontario and Canada with this breathtaking film.”
