SESQUIDOME FILM SENSATION TOUCHES DOWN IN THUNDER BAY

ONCE-IN-A-GENERATION EXPERIENCE CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE LETS VIEWERS EXPLORE CANADA IN CAPTIVATING 360° THEATRE IN GIANT INFLATABLE SESQUIDOME

THUNDER BAY, ON, JULY 20 – SESQUI’s cinematic dome continues its journey across Ontario this week, arriving in Thunder Bay, as the fifth of seven cities in the provincial tour. In partnership with Ontario150, the cinematic dome will offer free screenings of the 360° film, HORIZON for five days from July 24th – 28th, 2017. The unmistakably red, igloo-shaped SESQUIdome will near the Sears entrance of its biggest retail mall, Intercity Shopping Centre, with a variety of supporting festival activities.

SESQUI’s portable, immersive cinematic dome offers an 80-person capacity with the ultimate viewing experience with 5.1 surround sound and 360˙ projection in ultra-clear 9K resolution. Audiences will have a front row seat to the wonders of Canada through the immersive, 22-minute film HORIZON. Shot in all 13 provinces and territories, this film surrounds audiences with unprecedented views of everything from the auroras of the north to the amazing high tides of the Bay of Fundy. And with immersive 360° views from land, air, and even underwater, HORIZON showcases Canada as it has never been seen before.

“It has been a joy to share HORIZON with Canadians this year and we are thrilled to bring this experience to northwestern Ontario and the city of Thunder Bay,” said Joanne Loton, SESQUI Executive Producer. “We have seen both the amazing spirit of Canadians and incredible local turnouts and media coverage in our first four tour stops, we expect more of the same in Thunder Bay. As Canada 150 celebrations continue across the country past Canada Day, we hope to offer Canadians a once-in-a-generation experience they’ll never forget.”

The SESQUI cinematic dome is generously supported by the province of Ontario as part of a line-up of Ontario150 celebrations taking place across the province in 2017. SESQUI is also a Canada 150 Signature Initiative, supported by the Government of Canada.

“Ontario’s 150th anniversary is an opportunity to come together and celebrate the incredible province we live in. A picture is worth a thousand words, and the SESQUI film HORIZON is a visual spectacle of special and unique moments across the country,” said Eleanor McMahon, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. “With SESQUI’s dome in Thunder Bay, families throughout the area will experience the magic of Ontario and Canada with this breathtaking film.”

SESQUI has partnered with the City of Thunder Bay and Intercity Shopping Centre to bring the SESQUI experience to the Thunder Bay region. The tour stop will also feature culture and tourism activations by SESQUI, Ontario150, Canada 150 and city and community partners, as well as a chance for visitors to win incredible prizes through SESQUI’s People’s Choice Ballot sponsored by Via Rail. For the tour, SESQUI has also worked closely with its partners at the Bank of Canada on the rollout of the new $10 dollar bill, and with Parks Canada’s Canada 150 free pass program.

“We are thrilled Thunder Bay will be one of the seven cities in Ontario being visited by SESQUI,” said Paul Burke, Special Events Developer with the City of Thunder Bay. “HORIZON has been receiving very positive reviews across the province. Cutting-edge technology was used to create this 360 degree film showcasing the beauty of Canada.”

“Intercity Shopping Centre is excited to host SESQUI, and is happy to partner with the City of Thunder Bay in bringing this unique tour to our city,” states Shannon Young, Director of Marketing, Intercity Shopping Centre. “We are very honoured to be one of the few cities chosen on the tour, in celebration of Canada and its 150th anniversary. We are grateful that our community will have the opportunity to experience this unique 360° Canadian film.”
